Thun honey

Andrea Paternoster / Vigo di Ton (TN), Trentino Alto Adige

Mieli Thun is a farming business inspired from family traditions, where beekeeping is an art that has been passed down through three generations. Today the company manages about a thousand beehives located across 60 different sites in several regions in Italy. It employs 9-10 people who still carry out all of the work manually.

Back in the early ‘90s Andrea Paternoster began thinking about starting a farming business designed around total quality. He had a clear goal in mind right from the start: create a brand with a name that was suggestive of the quality of his honey - no more, no less. It is a 'scattered' beekeeping company with a nomadic nature and an approach similar to pastoralism, with narrow drover's tracks providing the inspiration: 'flocks' of bees traveling in search of rich, pure pastures. The company's headquarters is located in the heart of the Dolomites in Trentino, where honey originating from more than 20 different flower species is extracted and packaged.

Mieli Thun is a singularity in the honey industry: normally, beekeepers produce, buyers package and large retail chains sell. Mieli Thun pioneered a different approach: a supply chain process where each stage is closely supervised and where man still plays a major role. Everything is house-made, from honey to mead and vinegar. Quality is guaranteed by the central role played by the bees, uncompromising rigor in production, the purity of the flowers and utmost respect for users.
